Different Types of Closet Doors and Which Ones You Should Get

do you want closet sliding doors, closet barn doors, closet French doors, or closet pocket doors? There are so many options, so we’ll go through each one in detail to help you choose the right closet door for your needs.

CLASSIC CLOSET SWINGING DOOR

The closet swinging door is just like any other interior door. These doors are three-hinged and have a handle, lever, or knob that opens and closes the door. This could be an excellent option if you have enough space for a swinging door.

Pros:

This is a timeless and popular choice. If you want a consistent design throughout your home, you can make the closet doors match the interior doors. Most people believe that the swinging closet door is the best option.

Cons:

The area must be large enough to allow the swinging door to open. You don’t want to be able to open the closet door only a quarter of the distance due to a wall adjacent.

BIFOLD DOOR

A bifold door is an alternative to a traditional closet swinging door. Bifold doors are doors that can be folded in half. They have hinges in the middle which allow the door to fold in one vertical part. By folding it against the wall, the door opens. Bifold doors are more commonly used to reach in closets than the large master walk-in closet. Bifold doors are smaller than barn doors and swinging doors.

Pro:

The door folds in half, which saves you a lot of floors and wall space.

Cons:

Because of the tracks that they are mounted on, bifold doors have a shorter lifespan than other doors. You can open and close the door more frequently than you would like, so it is more likely to fall off its tracks.

BY-PASS DOORS

By-pass doors allow doors to slide in front of one another instead of swinging in and out. These are great for those with limited floor or wall space.

Pros:

They can easily be inserted into the closet opening, which saves space. These are simple to use and can be made DIY-friendly.

Cons:

Only half of the closet is available at any given time. These items are also on a track, so it is important that the tracks remain intact.
